About Raw banana fry recipe – Raw banana is called as aratikaya in telugu, vazhakkai in tamil, kache kele in hindi. Raw banana is used to make many dishes across the indian states. We can make many dishes with raw banana like raw banana curry, bajji’s, chips, fry etc.

There are many variations of this recipe based on the region. We usually prepare this dish by boiling, mashing and tempering the plantain. This is one simple dish and yet tasty. This goes well with combination of sambar rice, rasam rice or curd rice.

Raw banana fry – Step by step process

1. Peel the skin of the banana and clean them. Cut them into circles and put into a bowl.

2. Add required salt and turmeric and cook the banana until softens. Banana is cooked, drain the water and let it cool slightly.

3. Mash the banana with the hand and keep this aside.

4. To fry the banana, into pan heat some oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal and urad dal and let it fry for 1 minute.

5. Add curry leaves, slit green chillis and fry. Into this add onion and fry them until translucent.

6. Add little turmeric powder, garlic pods and mix and fry it. At this stage you can add salt if needed.

7. Now add cooked and mashed banana into this and mix it nicely.

8. Fry it for a minute and add few coriander leaves.

9. Raw banana fry or aratikaya fry is ready.

Tips

  1. While boiling raw banana add more salt, so that it can absorb the salt from water.
  2. Always boil the banana in water, don not pressure cook them because they may become mushy.

  • 2 nos. Raw banana
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 4 to 5 nos. green chillis
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
