Jump to RecipeMango is one of the fruit which we enjoy when it is raw and as well as ripe. During the start of summer season i always include raw mango in my everyday recipes. Raw mango is used to prepare many dishes like Mango sambar, Mango dal. The sourness in the mango gives a tangy taste and however it enhances the flavor of the dish.
During summer, instead of lemon rice or puliyodarai, we make mango rice. In telugu we call it mamidikaya, in tamil it is called as manga. Mango rice is a very simple recipe, we can prepare this in just few minutes. Boiled rice, grated mango and few spices are enough to prepare this recipe.
Mango rice has been my favorite dish since my childhood. This rice doesn’t require any side dish, however it is enjoyed with some fryums. This is an easy lunch box recipe, and kids will love this rice.
Mango rice recipe – Process
1. Firstly grate a mango into a bowl, and keep it aside. Boil some rice and keep it ready.
2. Take a pan, heat some oil, add few mustard seeds and let them crackle. Add some chana dal, urad dal and ground nuts, fry them well until golden brown. Add red chilli and fry it.
3. Add green chilli’s and curry leaves and fry them for a minute. Add grated mango and fry it until it softens.
4. Add some salt and turmeric powder, mix it well. Cook it nice and mushy.
5. Once mango is cooked, add the boiled and mix it well. Mango rice is ready.
Notes
- Cook rice in open for fluffy boiled rice, else it might become mushy.
- Use a sour mango to prepare this recipe. Few mangoes will not be sour enough for this dish.

Mango rice | Mamidikaya annam
Ingredients
- 1 Raw mango
- 3 cups cooked rice
- 2 to 3 green chilli's
- 1 red chilli
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 2 tsp ground nuts
- few curry leaves
- 1 tbsp. sesame oil
- salt to taste
