Jump to RecipeAbout Mango dal recipe – Mango dal is one famous dish which is usually made during summer season. During summer we make many recipes using mango like mango pachadi, mango sambar, mango rice etc. This recipe is prepared using raw mango and toor dal.
It is similar to any dal we usually prepare. The sourness of raw mango gives a very nice taste to this dish. This recipe is very simple and yet very flavorful. This is one such you should not miss trying in the summer season. This dish goes well with rice, ragi ball, roti and chapati.
Mango dal recipe – Step by step procedure
1. Into a pressure cooker add toor dal and rinse it. Finely slice the mango and add the mango pieces it.
2. Add green chillis, garlic pods, turmeric and add required water and mix it well.
3. Pressure cook this on a medium flame for 5 whistles and let the pressure release naturally. Dal is cooked well.
4. Add some salt and slightly mash the dal with dal masher or with the ladle. Keep this mashed dal aside.
5. For tempering, heat some oil in a pan add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add red chillis, curry leaves and onion and fry it until onion becomes translucent.
6. Add mashed dal into this and give a nice mix. Sprinkle some coriander leaves.
7. Tangy and spicy mamidikaya pappu is ready.
Tips
- Pressure cook toor dal in medium flame because sourness in mango may resist the cooking of dal.
- Check the sourness of the mango before using, add mango slices accordingly.
- Adding onion is optional, it is nice munching while having dal.

- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- few curry leaves
- 1½ cup water
- few coriander leaves
