About Cabbage curry recipe

This is a very simple recipe made with cabbage and ground nuts. When we boil the cabbage it easily takes on the flavor of other ingredients. I usually include ground nuts to this as it enhances the flavor of the dish. You can have this with rice, roti and poori.

Ingredients

Cabbage : Cut the cabbage into small pieces (1cm size) and wash it thoroughly.

Ground nuts : Dry roast the ground nuts and grind it into a fine powder.

Other Ingredients : Onion, tomato, red chilli powder, coriander seed powder, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, coriander leaves and oil. These are the other ingredients required for this recipe.

Cabbage curry recipe – Step by step process

  1. Take a pan add some oil. Once oil is heated add mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal, let the mustard seeds splutter.

2. Add onion and sauté it till the onion becomes translucent. Now add chopped tomatoes and cook till it becomes mushy.

3. Add cabbage, required salt and mix it well. Cook it for 5 mins, add water and let it cook properly. It takes 8 to 10 minutes.

4. Once the cabbage is cooked well, add red chilli powder, coriander seed powder and ground nut powder. Give this a nice mix and cook it for 5 minutes.

5. At last add hand full coriander leaves and serve it hot.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams cabbage
  • 50 grams ground nuts
  • 1 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tbsp urad dal⅘
  • 2 tbsp ground nut oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 tbsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander seed powder
  • few curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • hand full coriander leaves
  • water as required

Instructions

  • Take a pan, add ground nut oil. Once the oil gets heated add mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal. Let the mustard seeds splutter.
  • Add curry leaves and onion and sauté it for a min until onion becomes translucent.
  • Add chopped tomato and cook until it becomes mushy.
  • Now add cabbage and mix it well. Also add salt, turmeric powder at this stage and cook for 5 mins.
  • Add required water, cover and cook well.
  • Now add chilli powder, coriander powder and ground nut powder, give a nice mix.
  • Cook it for 2 minutes and check for salt, add more if needed.
  • At last add coriander leaves and serve it hot and enjoy.

Notes

  1. Cut cabbage into small pieces so that it can cook faster.
  2. Add generous amount of chana dal and urad dal as it increases the taste of the dish.
