Ladies finger is called as bendakaya in telugu, vendakay in tamil nd bindi in hindi. In India ladies finger is used to make different varieties of dishes. Bendakaya pullagura is a famous dish in rayalaseema. We make these kind of pullagura with vegetables like brinjal, ridge gourd, ladies finger etc. It is called pullagura because it is made a bit tangy .
Ladies finger has many health benefits, helps to control diabetes, relieves constipation, weight loss, reduces blood pressure etc.
Bendakaya pullagura recipe – Procedure
1. Heat some oil in a pan, add green chillis and fry them for a minute.
2. Add ladies finger and fry them well until the sliminess goes. It takes around 5 to 7 minutes.
3. Add chopped onion and fry them until it becomes translucent.
4. Add chopped tomato and cook everything until it becomes mushy. Add garlic and cook.
5. Everything is cooked well, add small lemon size tamarind, mix it and cook.
6. At last add required water, add salt and cook it for sometime. Cook it for 5 minutes.
7. Turn off the flame, mash the curry with an wooden masher.
8. Bendakaya pullagura is ready. This curry will be great with ragi ball.
Notes
- Add tamarind at last, because it may resist the cooking of the vegetable.
- We add onion and tomato after adding ladiesfinger because frying well removes the sliminess from it.

- 1 medium sized onion
- 1 medium sized tomato
- 6 nos. green chillies
- 2 to3 pods garlic
- tamarind half lemon size
- 2 tbsp. cooking oil
- salt to taste
- Required water
