Tomato peas pulao – Preparation
Heat some oil or ghee in a pressure cooker, add whole garam masala spices. I used cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaf and star anise. Also ad few cumin seeds and let splutter. Add sliced green chillies and fry for a minute.
And then add sliced one big onion and fry it until translucent, add ginger garlic paste and fry it for 2 minutes.
Now add sliced tomatoes and fry it until they become mushy. it takes around 3 to 4 minutes.
Add green peas into this, give it a nice mix and let them cook for 5 minutes. Also add salt as needed.
Then add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder, mix well and cook everything for more 5 minutes.
Chop handful of coriander leaves and mint leaves, add them. Give this a nice mix. Coriander and mint leaves give some nice aroma and adds taste to the pulao.
Add soaked rice, give it a nice mix and add required water. Check for salt, add more if needed.
Let it pressure cook for 3 whistles, and let the pressure release naturally. Let it sit for 5 minutes and serve.
Tomato peas pulao is ready. Serve it with some raita. I served it with beetroot raita and it taste perfect for the pulao.
Notes
- I use soaked peas for this pulao, you can use frozen or fresh peas.
- rice and water ratio is 1:1.5
- I did not use garam masala powder for this recipe, you can add it if you like more spice.
